COVID -19 Emergency Response Project in Nepal

Batas Foundation in partnership with Islamic Relief Nepal and with financial assistance from The Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) has implemented Emergency Humanitarian Response to COVID-19 Second Wave in Banganga Rural/Municipality of Kapilvastu District and Rohini; Omsatiya & Siyari Rural/Municipalities of Rupandehi Districts of Province 5, Nepal. The rapid response mechanism intervention targets the individuals/households of these areas. The project duration is from 15 June 2021 to 10 September 2021 with the total budget of NRs.35,898,040.00.

The direct beneficiaries of the overall project is 25,301 individuals, (13,723 males, 11,758 females) who are deeply affected by the second Covid-19 wave in Rupandehi and Kapilvastu districts. The project aims to support 6 public healthcare facilities with medical supplies and equipment benefitting at least 6,201 individuals (3,782 males, 2,419 females), 25 contactless hand washing stations to be installed in 23 public healthcare facilities benefitting at least 1,000 individuals (510 males, 490 females), 20 contactless hand washing stations to be installed in strategic public locations benefitting approximately 1,700 individuals (867 males, 833 males), Isolation kits to be provided to 2,000 infected individuals (approx. 1,220 males, 780 females) receiving home-based care or in isolation centres and 2,400 families (approx. 14,400 individuals; 7,344 males, 7,056 females) will receive food packs to support their daily food requirement for a period of 30 days.

The project intended to strengthen public health care system by supporting medical equipment and supplies; WASH support and facilities including meeting food needs of most vulnerable daily wage earners. The beneficiaries included the households who are from marginalized communities, living in the rural areas, under poverty, vulnerable population, such as pregnant/lactating women, single women, orphan children, PWDs, Covid-19 positive households, disadvantaged groups (socially & economically) etc.

Outcome 1. Food Distribution: Batas Foundation has supported food packs in total of 2400 households in different rural/municipalities of Kapilvastu and Rupandehi districts respectively.

· 900 HHs in Banganga Municipality of Kapilvastu district.

· 500 HHs in Siyari Rural Municipality of Rupandehi district.

· 500 HHs in Rohini Rural Municipality of Rupandehi district.

· 500 HHs in Omsatiya Rural Municipality of Rupandehi district.

Outcome 2. Medical Equipment: Batas Foundation has supported with different medical equipment items in different hospitals and municipalities such as Taulihawa Hospital of Kapilvastu Municipality, Banganga Municipality of Kapilvastu District, Province Hospital Butwal of Butwal Sub Metropolitan, Omsatitya Rural Municipality, Rohini Rural Municipality and Siyari Rural Municipality of Rupandehi District benefiting atleast 6201 individuals.

Outcome 3. Isolation Kit: Batas Foundation has supported 500 Isolation kits to each of the municipalities to provide to the Covid positive infected people/families as information received. The municipalities included Banganga Municipality of Kapilvastu district; Omsatiya Rural Municipality, Rohini Rural Municipality and Siyari Rural Municipality of Rupandehi District respectively benefiting 2000 infected individuals.

Outcome 4. Contact Less Hand Wash Station: Batas Foundation has supported in total of 45 contact less hand wash station (Hospital/ Health facilities- 25 and Public Places- 20) respectively in different municipalities such as Kapilvastu Municipality, Banganga Municipality of Kapilvastu District, Butwal Sub Metropolitan City, Omsatitya Rural Municipality, Rohini Rural Municipality and Siyari Rural Municipality of Rupandehi District benefiting at least 2700 individuals.
